Progress Report
We met and have an extremely tentative idea of the video we’re going to make. It’s still in a rough cut and we’re not quite sure how we’re gonna make it less BTS and more narrative.

7 Thingys for the Thingy, followed by some Things to help the Thingy get Good.
The video we chose to make, in retrospect, is a little broad. I’m not sure exactly who we’re gonna profile, or if that’s how we’re gonna end up doing the project (profile of one person), or just show the most interesting things, or what. I’m meeting with Julie tomorrow so I’ll probably revise this later.
A: Tiane Donahue and Steve Pane: Who Owns “Composing”? Heteroglossia, Music and Writing
It sounds cool, plus there’s a live music performance!
B: Samantha Blackmon: GameBoi Advances: Queerness and Interrelativity in Games, Gamers, and Games Media
or, if someone else goes to this one instead of me, W. Christopher Scruton: Structuring Game Narratives to Scaffold Effective Ethical Praxis
Some of my best friends are gay, and I play a lot of video games, so duh. Also, being a mostly single player type of gamer, narratives in video games have noticibly been becoming more intricate and thought-provoking. It’d be interesting to hear an academic view on them, even if the talk is on two games I’ve never heard of.
C: Brian D. Ballentine, Why We Need Hacker Ethics: Re-Mixing the Writing Classroom with Web 2.0 Technology
Being a casual hacker myself, I find hacker ethics to be interesting. Matching hacking with schoolwork seems like a stretch; I’d like to check it out to see how he does.
D: Michael Faris: Ann Coulter, Discourse, Desire, and Dignity: Figuring Words that Wound in the
Liberal/Libidinal Blogosphere
I hate Ann Coulter. But she’s effective. Love to see why.
E: David W. Overbey: House Calls in a Digital Landscape: Re-creating Mutual Presence in Medical Practice
A presentation at an English convention about a medical robot. Works for me.
F: Aaron McKain, “I’m Not There” Anymore: The Return of Identity in the Post-Remix Age
To be honest, I read through all of these and none of them sounded all that interesting. This one seemed the coolest.
G: A bunch of people, Message/Texts in IM, TM, and Facebook: The Shape of Contemporary
Writing
This is a round table that discusses how IMing and Facebooking, among other things, are affecting youth grammar today. Being one of those youths, this interests me.
Once again, I’m sorry I couldn’t do this better. I’ll try to revise it before class but I have a midterm tomorrow that I’ve been freaking about followed by a club meeting.
And my time’s all screwed up on here, I published this at 10:58 PM on Tuesday, October 7th.
So, I didn’t come to class today because I skipped my other two classes and for some reason thought our class started at 3. And youtube’s being totally lame and won’t keep my video.
Today is not my day at all.
Oh yeah, and what makes something interesting to me?
Humor=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humor
Humour or humor is the tendency of particular cognitive experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement.
It’s gotta have at least some sense of humor. If I have to say “lighten up,” I’m probably not gonna enjoy whatever I’m watching.
Flow=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rap#Flow
“A common way MCs judge how to flow in a verse is by writing a rhyme such that the most stressed words coincide with the beat in a way that makes the rhyming sound more musical (as opposed to spoken word) and that better combines the MC’s voice with the musical backdrop.” I don’t mean just with music, but this is how I define flow in rap. Things I enjoy hit all the right notes at the right time, so to speak.
Interesting: http://www.answers.com/topic/interest
I can’t write underneath it without another letter, so I’ll just write here. It has to be something that keeps my interest. “Economic Policies of Religious Leaders in the 15th Century” will probably not make my watch list.

- A state of curiosity or concern about or attention to something: an interest in sports.
- Something, such as a quality, subject, or activity, that evokes this mental state: counts the theater among his interests
Alaskan VP Evaluation
So, I heard about McCain’s VP pick and probably did the same “huh?” as everybody else. I figured there was something more to her than meets the eye. Turns out I was right. I got on the wordpress homepage and found this link:
http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/08/29/what-is-mccain-thinking-one-alaskans-perspective/
Read it. And while you’re reading it, consider this is the first scandal. The second one is that this uptight Republican pro-family mom has a 17-year-old daughter with a kid on the way. 5 months in. Wow.
I’m not tryin to bring up politics really, but can you think of any worse candidate for VP? The guy is friggin’ 72. I’m not saying he’s gonna die soon, but he’s on the verge of the US life expectancy. If McCain gets elected, THIS is who would replace him. My god. She’s inexperienced (way to completely destroy any credibility on your side about Obama’s experience), biased, and being used as a political tool to bring in women, as if all the women that supported all of Hillary Clinton’s policies are mindless drones being led around by any woman in a prominent position.
I’m not hating on women here. I’m all for a woman president. In fact, I agree with the blog I posted in saying that McCain’s pick completely disrespects women.
I also heard that McCain’s acceptance speech was delayed by a hurricane. Knowing that God works in mostly mysterious but also overt ways, I can confidently say He doesn’t want McCain to be president.
Jelly Belly-s
Does anyone else go through a bag of jelly beans and pick out a bunch of the same flavor at once?
Or throw away the ones you don’t like?
Cuz I do both.
